The PrevaLED Cube downlight was developed as part of an international family of products. The team was multinational. I worked with a team in Germany to develop the product portfolio. The design was innovative since the power supply was onboard the LED board vs the normal configuration which includes a separate power supply. This made it easier for the electricians to install and was more cost effective since a separate power supply and cabling wasn’t needed.

Some challenges the NAFTA team had to overcome were designing in a wire strain relief that had to be accessed with a tool, material selection (UL materials that meet flame standards are not optically reflective), and the design had to pass the UL ball drop test among other challenges.

US Patent D735926 Strain Relief was issued.

The product also won several design awards including the Architectural SSL Product Innovation Award (PIA) 2014 and ADEX 2014 Gold Award.
